WHAT IS THE
INTERNATIONAL CHESS FESTIVAL
The International Chess Festival "Città di Trieste" is a prestigious annual event dedicated to chess enthusiasts, held in the historic city of Trieste, located in the northeast of Italy. Founded in 1985, the festival has over the years become a prominent appointment in the international chess scene, attracting high-level players from around the world, as well as enthusiasts and spectators eager to witness top-quality games.
The festival is known for its ability to attract an international audience, with players coming from countries such as Russia, the United States, China, and numerous European states. This diversity not only enriches the level of competition but also promotes cultural exchanges between participants of different nationalities.
In addition to the tournaments, the festival includes a series of collateral activities such as seminars, training courses, and simultaneous games with grandmasters, aimed at promoting the game of chess at all levels. Local schools often collaborate with the organizers to engage students, introducing them to the game in a fun and educational manner.
The Festival
Features and Structure of the Tournament
The festival includes a series of tournaments divided by age categories and skill levels, allowing both grandmasters and amateur players to participate. Among the main tournaments are:
- Master Tournament (Open A): Reserved for players with an Elo rating above 1900.
- Trofeo Poljaz (Open B): Reserved for players with an Elo rating below 2000.
- Memorial Egidio Babille Standard (Tournament E): Open to all competitive players - Weekend Tournament.
- Beginner Tournament (Tournament F): Reserved for players with an Elo rating below 1700 points - Weekend Tournament.
HOW TO REGISTER
To register and participate in the festival, simply pay the registration fee, which must be paid by bank transfer addressed to the Società Scacchistica Triestina or via PayPal to scacchistica.triestina@gmail.com by Tuesday, August 27. After the payment, it is necessary to contact the Chess Society's secretariat via the email address matteo.marusich.sst1904@gmail.com to formalize and confirm the registration.
